HKSYU receives iFREE GROUP’s donation to provide entrance scholarship for Digital Marketing students

Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU) has received a donation to provide an annual entrance scholarship for local students admitted to Year 1 of the Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) in Digital Marketing (BBA-DM) programme, starting from the academic year 2019/2020.

The donor iFREE GROUP (HK) LTD will make available HK$1,000,000 annually for the entrance scholarship – iFREE Entrance Scholarship for the Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) in Digital Marketing programme, and has worked closely with the University to set the award mechanism.

On November 16, 2018, Mr. Steven LOKE, Chairman of iFREE GROUP (HK) LTD, Mr. Ricky K P CHIA, Managing Director of iFREE GROUP (HK) LTD, and other senior members of the management visited HKSYU and presented a cheque for HK$1,000,000 to senior management of the University.

Dr. HU Fai Chung, Deputy President of HKSYU, and Professor Catherine SUN, Academic Vice President, thanked Mr. Steven LOKE for their generous donation.

After the cheque presentation ceremony, Dr. HU Fai Chung, Professor Catherine SUN, Ms. Sophia YIP, Associate Vice President (Student Affairs), Professor David YEUNG David, Distinguished Research Professor and Head of Department of Business Administration, and other senior staff of the University held discussion with the guests and explored the opportunities for collaboration. Initially, iFREE wanted to explore possibilities of upgrading the University’s wifi connectivity, and then at a later day, iFREE would like to look into the possible establishment of a Big Data Laboratory.

iFREE Group (HK) LTD is a global company based in Hong Kong pioneering new ways to travel and to offer mobile communications.

According to Professor Catherine SUN, the scholarship aims at encouraging students who have an avid interest in Digital Marketing to achieve their ultimate goal of earning the requisite qualifications to pursue a career in this specialized area.

Each year, a maximum of 50 scholarships of $20,000 each will be made available. Recipients will receive the scholarship in two equal installments. The first installment will be disbursed in late October and the second installment will be disbursed in late February. This scholarship is renewable annually subject to available funds and students’ continued satisfactory performance as stipulated in the “Renewable Criteria”.

Under the “Renewable Criteria”, recipients must maintain a minimum of Cumulative GPA of 3.5 in the second semester of previous academic year to remain eligible.

No separate application for entrance scholarship is required. The University will automatically identify qualified students and inform the recipient of the scholarship offers. The scholarship will not apply if the student concurrently holds any other scholarship, fellowship, bursary, grant, award or allowance without prior approval from the University.
