Postgraduate programme in play therapy launching ceremony

Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU) and the University of South Wales (USW), UK, held a launching ceremony of the MSc in Play Therapy programme in the campus of HKSYU on October 18, 2013. This programme is offered by USW through HKSYU.

The launching ceremony was held in the Library Complex of the University. The ceremony began with a speech of welcome by Professor Catherine Sun, Head of Department of Counselling & Psychology of HKSYU. Professor Julie Lydon, Vice Chancellor of USW, Mr. Vassilis Konstantinou, Pro-Vice Chancellor International, and Mr. Mark Cadwallader, Head of Strategic Development, of USW, attended the ceremony.


Dr. Fai-Chung Hu, Administrative Vice President of HKSYU presented souvenirs to Professor Julie Lydon and other representatives of USW during the ceremony.

The MSc in Play Therapy programme is the first of its kind to be offered in a government-recognized university in Hong Kong. USW is one of the two universities in the UK accredited by the British Association of Play Therapists (BAPT) to offer academic programmes in play therapy. Graduates from the programme are eligible to register as play therapists with the BAPT.

The MSc in Play Therapy programme is a combination of taught modules, clinical practice and personal therapy. The study period of the programme is three years.


The programme is delivered in two major blocks of intensive teaching each year, with a total of six major blocks over the three years. Each block consists of five evening meetings which run for two hours from 19:00 to 21:00 (Mon to Fri) and 4 whole days which run for eight hours from 09:00 to 18:00 (Saturdays and Sundays).

An information seminar for the August 2014 intake will be held on December 14, 2013, at Room 103, 1/F Library Complex, starting at 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm [registration should be made on or before December7].
