The High Table Dinner 2013, organized by the Department of Law and Business of Hong Kong Shue Yan University, was successfully held on 27 March 2013 at Harbour Grand Hong Kong. The Department was honoured to have the Secretary for Justice, the Honourable Mr. Rimsky Yuen, SC, JP, as the keynote speaker this year, delivering an inspiring speech with the theme of “Integrity and Professional Conduct”.

High Table dinner is an annual event held by the Department of Law and Business, which aims to promote intellectual exchange among participants as well as to enhance students’ interpersonal and social etiquette skills. This year, the event was well attended by over 180 participants, including members of the legal, political and business fields, senior officers of the University, teaching staff of the Department, graduates and also current students.

In his welcoming address, Dr. Andy Chiu Man-chung, the Head of the Department of Law and Business, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all participants for their support and efforts in assisting in the development of the Department. He shared the experience of a recent graduate as an introductory remark to encourage students to pursue excellence by seizing every possible chance to demonstrate their capability and talents.

The Honourable Mr. Rimsky Yuen, SC, JP, in his speech, spoke of the importance of integrity and professional conduct. He emphasized that upholding justice is one of the cherished core values of Hong Kong. Any breach of honour will bring irreparable consequences to the society where the rule of law is upheld. He then advised students, especially those who aspire to devote themselves to a professional field, to uphold high standards of integrity at all times, so as to prevent their future from being jeopardized.

Miss. Emily Diu, representing graduates with outstanding academic achievements, shared her experience of exploring limits and striving for excellence with determination. She was deeply appreciative of the devotion and efforts made by the Department in the last few years in enhancing not only her understanding of the law, but her whole-person development. She concluded by encouraging current students to live up to the expectations of their teachers and professors.

The High Table Dinner provides precious opportunities to both staff and students to interact with the guests. Many students received valuable insights into the latest developments in different professional sectors and possible future career prospects, allowing them to be more confident in planning their future career.

The Department of Law and Business hereby express our heartfelt gratitude to the generous donations from the sponsors and guests taking part in this most enjoyable evening.
